SPORTS (can't do any)

Sorry to keep you guys dry… been pretty busy lately… well actually the whole term :P

Let’s see, many things happened for the past 10 weeks, but since I can’t remember the chronology, I’ll just crap about what I did for the past 10 weeks!

This term was the sports season (“sports is an integral part of college life” -TJC 2004 Yearbook) and surprisingly my college managed to be in most of the semis and finals!

Let’s see if I can remember…
Table tennis – top 5
Cricket – top 5
Tennis – Sorry Shanta better luck in uni tennis!
Squash – eh the team exist?
Hockey – somewhere in the top 16 (there are only 16 JCs in Singapore… and counting)
Rugby – no idea
Swimming, Sailing, Track and Field, Rock Climbing – ongoing or not yet start…

Can’t remember the other teams…

Anyway then there’s our college’s pride and joy (not that the others aren’t… don’t misunderstand!) – our basketball boys, badminton chicks and not-so-leng-chai guys and the ever-ah-beng volleyball boys! All three made it to the finals!

Hooray! Three cheers three cheers for TJ!

The college decided to chauffeur us to the stadium to watch the finals. The volleyball final was the first. Initially, the college only selected a few classes to attend. It was against Nanyang JC

The turn out for our college was horrible (comparing to Nanyang JC). The previously volleyball girls final involving Nanyang JC and Jurong JC also consist of many enthusiastic Jurong Birdies (not that their mascot is a bird but since the bird park is at Jurong… JJ people don’t angry hor!)

Unfortunately, we lost to Nanyang JC… but honestly… kena trashed kau kau! Lost three sets in A ROW! But it was a good game… saw some good defending!

Look at the number of supporters going to Toa Payoh stadium? SO LITTLE!! Oh that's Grace with the blue bag Hi Grace!# Posted by Hello

Horrible, just horrible... across was the Nanyang Lions (because their flag had a lion in it) That's one of our Student councilors waving our flag... Posted by Hello

Alot of good defending and smashing (don't know the volleyball jargants but hope these are the terms...) however still kena trashed by NYJC! Eeee, can't believe our team's jersey had our college's name printed in chinese... can't be that ah beng right the team? Posted by Hello

The Jurong birdies were damn enthusiastic! They seemed to have memorised all the JCs’ cheers! After the match was over, the prize giving ceremony commenced. So other JCs who won the top 4 positions came in to collect their prizes. And when the name of the JC was called, they just went hysteria and started shouting their cheers! Thanks for acknowledging us too birdies!

Learning from the mistake (and most probably embarrassment from the volleyball match) the principal decided to make it mandatory for us to support the basketball and badminton finals.

Didn’t attend the basketball match though, was sick. But it was against Hwa Chung Institution (hear the name also think aiya sound so cina sure good in basketball la)

We were damn desperate to win this game… it has been 20 YEARS clinched first… and 11 YEARS since we entered the finals… if you are not desperate at all, you gotta be kidding me!

So the principal was all ‘we must win this game and all’ while the student councillors were propagating ‘oh we must go support our college!’ with the a-bit-last-minute-small-and-lowya-posters.

Wow... if you look closely the spectators were wearing those 1980s big glasses.... and that was so long ago! And that is how desperate my college wanted the basketball title! Posted by Hello

As we kena trashed by NYJC in volleyball, the principal managed to get the student council to make the basketball and the badminton one big hit! Posted by Hello

HCI was good all right. In the beginning, it looked like we were losing badly. But at the very last few minutes, all of sudden our boys just kept on scoring and scoring! We surpassed HCI only at the last few minutes! That was incredible! We won!

After the game, the principal went on about how you can achieve something if you put your heart to it…

Shanta went:
Yeah right, I wanted tennis to get into (semis/finals/next round) but didn’t get in what put your heart to it…

Since I missed out on the basketball match, I just had to attend the badminton finals! This match was against Raffles JC. When we arrived, it was the opposite of the volleyball match! Our supporters outnumbered the Rafflesians (does this word look like the Rafflesia flower?). Yeah! And in the beginning, it was apparent that the girls were kicking the Raffles Rafflesia (very lame but don’t know what else to describe) butts! The guys… haih anticipated the lost la… Then our very own Malaysian state player scholar power Mei Lian trashed the flowers kau kau! She didn’t even give her opponent a chance to service over!

Unfortunately our doubles sucked… badly… so we both guys and chicks tied with them. We brought out the our best… Singapore bred national player (half Malaysian too :P) Tan Li Si! But unfortunately she lost to the flowers… it’s ok Li Si you played your best! Saw super duper good strokes from ya!

So in the end, both guys and chicks teams settled for 2nd position…

But overall, it all three events were good!
